With a little help …

Sí, ya sé lo que dicen los maestros de la fotografía, que con una mala cámara se pueden hacer buenas fotos. Pero si tienes una buena lente en una buena cámara, pues mejor que mejor. En el caso de estas dos fotos, las hice anoche con un objetivo de una calidad extraordinaria, el Canon 28mm f/1,8, sobre una 5D.

I know what the great photographers say, that you can get a good picture with a bad gear. But … if you get a good lens on a good camera, well, so much the better. I shot the photos below yesterday night with a fantastic lens, the Canon 28mm f/1.8 on a 5D.

Todavía no he visto la película «Blancanieves», pero ese rincón del cine Ideal estaba muy fotogénico en la oscuridad de la noche. Enfrente, el Teatro Fígaro. Tras el fallido experimento con un visor electrónico vuelvo a lo de siempre, una buena reflex o la Leica, es lo que me da seguridad a la hora de disparar.

I haven’t seen the film «Snow White», but that corner of the movies theatre was very photogenic in the darkness. Opposite, Figaro Theatre. After the failed experiment with a Fuji electronic viewfinder I come back to classics -a good reflex or the Leica. I feel safe with both of them when shooting.

Sigo probando la Fujifilm X100, que funciona muy bien en situaciones de noche con el visor óptico y da un resultado más que bueno en cuanto a calidad. También es muy cómoda de manejar con una sola mano. Pero me temo que la nueva Fujifilm E-X1 sea imposible de utilizar para fotografía de calle por muy bueno que sea su visor electrónico. En este tipo de fotografía la rapidez de disparo es fundamental.

I am still testing the Fujifilm X100, which works very well by night with the optical viewfinder and gives excelent results in terms of quality. It is also very easy to handle with only one hand. But I am afraid that the new Fuji E-X1 will be difficult to use for street photo even if its electronic viewfinder has improved. In this kind of photography speed of shooting is vital.

Esta última foto fue tirada a 2500 ISO, velocidad 0,4 segundos y diafragma 2,8. Las anteriores, a 1600 ISO.

Mi buena amiga Conchi me prestó una Fujifilm X100 con la que salí a echar unas fotos el sábado noche. No es un capricho. El caso es que quiero comprarme una Fuji X-E1 que acaba de salir al mercado -pequeña, ligera, sensor APS de calidad, barata- y necesito saber si el visor electrónico resulta llevadero y eficaz. Acostumbrada a usar una telemétrica, esta X100 resulta algo desconcertante, pero lo que es innegable es su calidad de imagen en situaciones de escasa luz. ¿Por qué quiero comprarme una cámara Fujifilm teniendo otras dos buenas cámaras? No es un capricho, lo juro, sino una necesidad de ir ligerita cuando salgo de viaje. Mi 5D con un 24-70mm pesa dos kilos, y cada vez que la saco de paseo se me rompe la mano al cabo de una hora. Mi Leica M8 pesa menos pero cuando viajo por tierras azarosas, ay, se me rompe el alma pensando que me la pueden robar …

I borrowed a Fujifilm X100 from my good friend Conchi and I went out to shoot on Saturday night. It’s not a whim, let me explain. Thing is I want to buy the last Fujifilm camera, the X-E1 -small, light weight, a quality APS sensor, cheap- but I need to find out if its electronic viewfinder is efficient. Used as I am to shoot a rangefinder, this X100 is a bit puzzling, but you cannot deny its excelent image quality under poor lighting situations. Why I want to buy a Fuji camera having other two good cameras? It’s not a gear addiction I swear but the need to go light when I travel. My 5D plus a 24-70mm weights two kilos, and every time I carry it my hand falls down after strolling for one hour. My Leica M8 is lighter but whenever I travel through hazardous territories, alas, the fear to be robbed breaks my heart …
