Wintry beaches
La playa en invierno tiene un aire desolado y melancólico muy atractivo, otra cara de la moneda de las veraniegas playas abarrotadas de turistas. Puedes pasearte kilómetros sin ver un alma. Cuando se trata de playas mediterráneas es difícil encontrarles su fotogenia al no ser espectaculares. Estas fotos pecan de sentido abstracto, pero es tal como yo las vi.
Beaches in winter acquire a devastated and melancholic aspect very attractive, opposite of the crammed summer beaches. You can easily walk without seeing a soul. Mediterranean beaches are not photogenic because they are not spectacular. You will think these fotos are too abstract, but it’s what I saw.

Vivir en la árida meseta castellana a casi 400 km de la playa más cercana es un sufrimiento, sobre todo cuando una procede de una ciudad mediterránea. Con más frecuencia de la deseada suspiro por los días de arena y calor, por ese regusto salado en la boca cuando sales del mar. En fin. Living in a plateau at almost 400 km from the nearest beach makes you suffer, specially when you come from a Mediterranean town. In the sunny and bright days of winter you long for the days of sand, hot, and salty waters. These photos where taken in San Sebastián, and the last two in Alicante.

El sol invernal en Madrid es particularmente agradecido, fuerte pero no cegador, el aire queda límpido. De eso sabía mucho Velázquez. Y las Leicas-M digitales tienen una extraña capacidad de procesar esas luces sin que se disparen las alarmas, sin reventar las altas luces.
Winter sun in Madrid is specially grateful, it’s strong but you don’t get blind, the air is clear and sharp. Velázquez knew that quality very well. And the digital M Leicas have got a weird capacity of processing those high lights without bursting them.

Strolling around Malasaña
Al lado de Chueca, el barrio de Malasaña es estupendo para todo, y también para fotografiar. Lleno de tiendecitas antiguas y nuevas, bares, tabernas, cafés, fast food de calidad, tiene una vida increíble. Esta mañana estuve paseando con Ana, fotógrafa, y esto vi.
Next to Chueca, the district of Malasaña is great for everything, also for shooting. It’s full of small old shops but also new fast food of quality, bars, cafés, taverns. There is an amazing life in the streets. This morning I went for a walk with Ana, photographer, and this is what I saw.
